President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with a delegation from the Sudan Sovereign Council on Tuesday, led by the council’s deputy chairman, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The delegation is in Juba for the peace talks between the Sudanese Government and armed groups from Darfur, South Kordofan and the Blue Nile Region.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the deputy chairman of the Sudan Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan announced that the Sudanese government and SPLM- North/ Sudanese Revolutionary Front signed an initial agreement on the security arrangements, a key step towards reaching a comprehensive peace agreement for Sudan.
The two parties agreed to integrate SPLA- North into the Sudan Armed Forces.
Mohamed Hamdan appreciated President Salva Kiir’s tireless efforts in mediating the Sudanese Peace Talks. The Chairperson of the mediation Committee for Sudan Peace Talks, Tut Gatluak said that the Sudanese government and the armed groups will sign a comprehensive peace agreement on August 28th.
Tut Gatluak, who is the Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs, reiterated the commitment of President Salva Kiir to ensure that peace and stability is achieved in Sudan. The Sudanese Peace Talks have been held in Juba since last year, under the auspices of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
